Switch It Up! Burgers On The BBQ

Can you believe it’s half way through June?  Seriously, where did the time go?  I’m absolutely LOVING the warm weather lately and I’m so happy it will stick around for awhile.

A quick and easy segway into this post is by simply declaring that BBQ is my buddy and burgers are my jam.  Throughout the summer this dynamic duo is definitely our go to Friday night meal and I will never get tired of the happiness it brings me.  I love nothing more than coming home after a long week, sitting out on the deck, enjoying the smell of BBQ in the air, and an ice cold beer in my hand.  Pure bliss my friend.

I wish I could say that I take the time to make homemade burger patties and that I have a wonderful recipe to share.  However, that is definitely not the case because I think ground beef is yucky and I would prefer not to touch it.  Don’t get me wrong, at some point this summer I have plans to endure the grossness in hopes my efforts will reap wonderful results, but right now… I’m good.

It also helps that a few years ago I came across these PC Black Label Wagyu Beef Burgers.  They are simply delicious and I mean, why mess with a good thing?

Wagyu Beef

Ever since these burgers came into my life, Mike has been grilling them up with perfection every single time.  These patties are next level.  Wagyu beef is top of the line because of the unique fat marbling throughout and one bite definitely shows you why.

The flavour is absolutely wonderful and I have never had a burger (at home) taste this good.

This cheeseburger is our standard go to burger, which is awesome and has satisfied our taste buds for years.  But sometimes the same old same old gets kind of…old.  And despite being super delicious, I couldn’t help but feel that the time had finally come to elevate our good old “go to” into something new.

So, I popped open the fridge and took a look around.  We had onions, mushrooms, mozzarella, and Uncle Dougie’s Sneaky Spicy Sauce (no crap! LOVE that)… At this point I totally knew I was on to something.  I decided to consult Mike to see if he was on board.  Within 2 seconds of explaining,  he was already half way out the door, throwing off the BBQ cover and firing up the grill.

While Mike was outside doing his BBQ thing, I was inside getting the veggies prepped.  No challenge here, just simply slice onions and mushrooms and place into a pan with olive oil on medium-low heat.  The key is to cook these very slow because you do not want them browning.  They should cook down and become super soft and translucent.  Honestly, this could take around 12-15 minutes.

Once the veggies are “happy”, drown them in BBQ sauce and keep on low until go time.  The sauce will reduce, sink its flavour into the veg, and transform them into something amazing!  Meanwhile, when the burgers are cooked, top them with shredded mozzarella, and place the buns on the grill to toast.  Keep an eye on them and once the cheese and buns are done, its time to pour some drinks and build yourself a burger!!

Mozzarella Burger with Grilled Onions and Mushroms

This meal was awesome.  After every bite I was literally talking with my mouth full saying “this is the best thing ever”.  Where do I start?!  The burger was so flavourful and charbroiled, it paired perfectly with the spicy BBQ sauce, and the patience poured into the mushrooms and onions was well worth the effort.  I loved having the mozzarella cheese because with every bite its ooey gooey goodness was gushing  out.  Oh and the bun, go big or go home!  There is no time for Wonder bread buns when you have the Rolls Royce of burgers on your plate.

Burgers!

So what did we learn from all of this?!  Get creative with your food!  BUST OUT of the comfort zone and switch it up from time to time.  It doesn’t have to be some extravagant dinner, just something as simple as changing the toppings on your burger yields AMAZING results!

Treat yourself my friends!! If you are going to have a burger, have a freakin’ burger and enjoy every minute of it.  At least when you are at home you get to control the ingredients that go in it.   Life is too short to constantly deprive yourself of the wonderful deliciousness that is BBQ.

Eat Food. Love Life.  And remember >> DONT BE BORING<<
